Why We Want to Learn Metacognitive Therapy

"I want to learn MCT as a transdiagnostic tool to treat a variety of disorders, especially for my GAD skillset."

Katie Marrotte, LCSW

OCD Training School Co-Founder

"I am THRILLED about this training. I can't wait to learn from Dr. Callesen. So many clients with OCD have co-occurring conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders. I'm excited to have another tool that can help me treat the whole person in front of me."

Bronwyn Shroyer, LCSW

OCD Training School Co-Founder

“I’m excited to have another tool in my toolbox to help clients address their rumination. I would love to have another short term, skills-based modality for clients that is impactful. I’ve found education around fusion beliefs and skills like attention training so helpful in my own recovery!”

Metacognitive Therapy - Live Virtual - 2 Day

  • Closed
  • Course

This training will be given by Pia Callesen, PhD.

MCT is a transdiagnostic therapy used to treat OCD, Depression, Anxiety Disorders, and PTSD. We are thrilled to be offering one of the first MCT trainings in the US. Having a transdiagnostic therapy like MCT in your toolkit can help your clients with their OCD while also helping them with co-occurring conditions that they may have as well.

You will gain access to course materials one week before the trainings. We are excited to help bring MCT to North American clinicians (and anyone else who wants to join us!).

This training will include recorded sessions with clients and therefore will not be available as an on demand course. All participants must attend the live, virtual training days. NBCC/ASWB CEs included in price. APA is pending approval and will have an additional $35 CE fee. Be sure to read the refund policy below before purchase.

About This Course

Description:
This introductory course on Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) consists of two comprehensive 6-hour sessions, providing clinicians with an immersive and practical foundation in MCT principles and methods. Led by Dr. Pia Callesen, a recognized expert in MCT, the course offers an engaging mix of theoretical instruction and hands-on learning. Dr. Callesen will introduce the basics of MCT using a variety of case studies and real video sessions featuring authentic clients, giving participants a unique opportunity to observe MCT techniques in action and see firsthand how they facilitate change.

Throughout the course, participants will become well-acquainted with the core principles of MCT, including how to understand and address Cognitive Attentional Syndrome (CAS) and how metacognitive beliefs contribute to psychological distress. Dr. Callesen will guide clinicians in applying key techniques, such as Attention Training Technique (ATT) and Detached Mindfulness, in ways that empower clients to disengage from unproductive rumination and worry.

In addition to lectures and video analysis, the course includes group assignments and interactive plenary sessions, where participants collaboratively work through exercises and case examples. These group activities are designed to enhance learning through discussion and reflection, enabling participants to deepen their understanding and improve their practical skills. By the end of this course, clinicians will be equipped with a solid grasp of MCT principles and the confidence to begin integrating MCT techniques into their own therapeutic practice.

She has a PhD from Manchester University and trained with the founder of metacognitive therapy at the MCT Institute. Her study into the effectiveness of metacognitive therapy for depression, published in Scientific Reports in 2020, suggests that MCT has considerable benefits which can exceed those of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). She is the author of Live More Think Less (2020).
