"Bronwyn is an amazing presenter with a wealth of knowledge, and is so generous with her sharing of information and support. I can't wait to try the trauma mapping activity and put this information into practice. The case examples were also fantastic and very illustrative."

"I loved the case examples that were provided. It is very helpful for me to learn to hear about how to conceptualize based on actual symptom presentations. Thank you for a great training!"

OCD+PTSD: Differential Diagnosis and Treatment Considerations

  • Course
  • 365-day access

OCD and PTSD can have some shared features and often co-occur. This course will go over differential diagnosis, case examples, and treatment considerations.

About This Course

Description:
PTSD co-occurs in approximately 25% of those with OCD. OCD occurs in approximately 31-41% of those with PTSD. It's important that OCD specialists and trauma specialists both have an understanding of the other condition. This course will go over symptoms that can look similar in each condition and how to address them. We will also discuss how OCD and PTSD can interfere in the treatment of the other condition. We will touch on implications for ERP and take a deeper dive into implications for I-CBT, including where trauma reactions may show up during treatment. We will also discuss clinical judgment points on when to focus on PTSD or when to focus on OCD as the primary condition and how to know when to pivot treatment between the two.

Objectives

  • Distinguish between PTSD and OCD symptoms.

  • Assess if PTSD and OCD symptoms are occurring during and interfering with the treatment of the other condition.

  • Learn to construct a map of overlapping symptoms to aid in treatment planning.
